At long last the taxi service in this region has been improved, maybe even dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century!

The Javea Taxis (previously Cooperativa del Taxi Xábia) are now part of the Central Training Centre of Taxis of the Valencian Community, which means a centralised switchboard plus more taxis available.

The Central Taxi Services offices are based now in La Nucia and have the most modern equipment, such as GPD and GPRS tracking systems and being centralised they can now offer a 24 hour service.

The new telephone number for the 24 hours taxi service is 902 199 777 – calls are charged at local rates.

The staff are multilingual and taxis can now be called for from anywhere in the Marina Alta as the new taxi service also covers the local areas of Denia, Benissa, Ondara, La Vila Joiosa, Alfaz del Pi, La Nucia, Teulada-Moraira, Callosa d’en Sarrià, Altea & Alcoy.

Citibox UK Post to Spain

Even if you get post delivered to your own address in Javea or to a post box here via Correos, there are times when it would be so much easier (and reliable) if you could use a UK address but get your post redirected here wouldn’t it?

Well now you can – with Citibox you have a UK address here in Spain which makes life so much easier in many different ways and although it will obviously cost you (up to around €160) there are so many reasons to use the system.

Advantages of a Citibox UK address:

Friends & family can send you things costing no more than standard UK postage
Order online even if the retailer doesn’t deliver outside the UK
Magazine subscriptions are much cheaper using a UK address
Counts as a physical address for driving licenses & passports
Banks will accept this as a valid address for paper statements

To get your Citibox address you need to call into Networking SCP (near the APASA Charity Shop) to complete a registration form and pay for the account to be set up, this is also where you will collect your post from. Your address is then ready to be used immediately and will be something like “Javea 102, 20 Bond Street, West Bromwich, B70 7DQ” which you can amend if required to look less like a post-box address to say “Flat 102 Javea House and the rest of the address” as long as the box number and Javea appear then your post will get to you!

Once a week post is shipped from the UK to Javea, so if it is at the box in the UK for Wednesday you will have it waiting for you at your Citibox the following Wednesday. If you post for that week is under 1kg then there is no further cost, if it is above this then the charges are €5 up to 5kg, €10 for up to 10kg, €30 up to 30kg, but for over 30kg special arrangements must be made.

APASA Dog Pound

It is estimated that every year up to 6000 dogs are abandoned and left for dead, that is why APASA (Asociacion Protectora de Animales de San Antonio) dog pound (Perrera) was founded in 1999 by a group of English, German and Swiss expats living here in Xabia in order to give hope to the hundreds of lost and abandoned dogs in Javea and the surrounding areas.

All dogs adopted from APASA are vaccinated, blood tested, have a microchip and European Passport and will not be allowed to go to a new home without the owner being vetted for suitability. Although the dogs are free to a good home a small donation to cover the medical costs of the dogs is requested.

All their funding comes from charity donation and fund raising events. They have recently opened a second hand shop to help fund the dog’s home and this can be found at Avda. del Pla 124, Local 9 – in between “Construcciones Jávea” and “Deutsche Bank” where they sell clothing, books, household goods, furniture and much more all kindly donated by local residents.
