PortAventura – Tarragona

PortAventura SalouAlthough maybe not just a day out from Javea, PortAventura (near Salou on the Costa Daurada) is most definitely well worth a trip when you are in Spain as it is the biggest theme park attraction in the south of Europe!

Much like Terra Mitica, it is split into themed sections – MediterrĂ nia, Far West, Mexico, China & Polynesia – each with a variety of rides and amusements.

There are hundreds of rides ranging from gentle rides for kids to exciting adult roller coasters and here you will find the only 8 looped roller coaster in the world, Dragon Khan probably the main attraction in the park along with the Furius Baco and the Hurakan Condor.

As there is so much to do at the park most people turn the visit into a holiday in its own right, with a stay at one of the three hotels linked to the park. There are also theatre shows, singers and wild west shoot outs, plus lots of restaurants and snack bars and a huge number of shops.

Port Aventura can be reached from Javea via the A-7 (E-15) motorway and takes on average 3½ hours to drive. The theme park resort is beside the coastal resorts of Salou and La Pineda being around a ten minute drive from Reus International Airport or one hours drive from Barcelona airport.

During the summer months the park is open daily until midnight, but at other times during the year opening times are shorter and sometimes only at weekends. The park is completely closed from mid-January to the end of March.
